My Brief Autobiography

Hello, and welcome to my new blog! My name is Nathan and I am embarking on a new and exciting path in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) at Vancouver Community College. I will be primarily using this space to document my journey throughout my studies, and identify trends, articles and media that I find useful or interesting.

Who am I? I work as a Journeyman Electrician for a small contractor based in Duncan, BC. My work takes me to jobsites all over central Vancouver Island. At this point in my career, I decided it was a good idea to step back and move to a part-time role with the company so I could give my body a rest and focus on the next goal in my life, becoming a trades instructor like my father before me. I take a lot of pride in teaching and guiding my apprentices on a daily basis, so it feels like a perfect fit for me.

In my spare time, I enjoy getting out into nature as much as possible. Camping, cookouts, bonfires, and spending time with my dog Sparky (pictured) are what fuel me and lift my spirits. While I am not from Vancouver Island originally, this place feels like home, and I hope I'll be lucky enough to spend the rest of my days here.

I am looking forward to learning from my classmates, my instructors, and the course materials associated with this program. While I haven't set foot in a classroom in a few years, I feel like the electrical trade is one of constant learning and adapting, so my hope is that I'll settle back into student life rather smoothly. To anyone reading this blog, please feel free to reach out or comment with any questions or feedback. I invite and respect your opinion and look forward to a conversation. Thanks!

I acknowledge and honor the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw, Snaw-naw-as, and Stzuminus peoples, upon whose ancestral lands we live, work, and gather.
